On the Issues

Economy and job creation

  • As a resident and small business owner in this district for 25 years, I have witnessed first-hand the importance of protecting our freedom of opportunity.
  • I have created jobs and helped grow my community.
  • I know from personal experience just how much government can stifle economic growth.
  • I believe our State Legislature needs leaders with strong business experience – my strong private sector background is an example of that leadership.
  • Since 2004, our State government has grown, raised taxes, increased regulations and chased jobs from Colorado.
  • We need to stop the increasingly anti-business agenda of our State Legislature.

Energy and the Environment

  • The people of Colorado deserve a common-sense approach to solving our energy needs.  Colorado holds the opportunity for environmentally sensitive solutions through solar, wind and mineral natural resources.
  • Our District is unique in its major throughfares of I-70 and 285.  We welcome visitors to Colorado’s majestic mountains while protecting our outdoor way of life and our beautiful Colorado environment.  This is a resource worth protecting for the benefit of our enjoyment and our local economy.

Wildfires and Bark Beetle

  • Our District is in the Red Zone – a dangerous wildfire area.  While we may choose to live here for our breathtaking views, we must remain diligent in protecting our communities from wildfire.
  • Our volunteer and emergency service providers are critical in the protection of our homes and communities.  They deserve our support in their quest to keep us safe.
  • The US Forest Service predicts that every large, mature lodge-pole pine forest in Colorado and southern Wyoming will be dead within three to five years.
  • As the infestation spreads and more trees die, it will affect tourism, water quality and the increased risk of catastrophic wildfire caused by dry, standing-dead trees

Illegal Immigration

  • The federal government has failed to protect our borders, and we’re paying the price.
  • Colorado is currently spending $1 billion a year in services for illegal aliens.

Education

  • Our children represent the future of our State and country, they deserve high quality in our education system.
  • While Colorado has among the highest per-capita rate of advanced degrees in the country, we rank near the bottom in sending our high-schoolers to college.
  • Of those kids who go on to college, nearly 1/3 require remedial instruction in at least one subject.
  • If our kids are going to complete in a 21st-century global economy, it’s time to move on from 20th-century standards.
  • I support choice in our educational systems
  • I support fully funding schools, holding schools accountable and increasing parental involvement.

Property Rights

  • We as citizens must maintain our property rights to prevent government from taking property through the abuse of eminent domain and adverse possession.

Crime

  • We must be forever diligent in the protection of our people and property.
  • Crime prevention and pursuit must continue in the areas of identity theft, child victimization and internet violations.
  • We must stand as a State to deter crime and enforce harsh penalties for harsh crimes.

Health Care

  • We must work to support quality healthcare while exploring new avenues for equitable costs for insurance, prescriptions and our healthcare needs.
